Information for unaffiliated swimmers — Alfred Nikodém Memorial 2025

As tradition dictates, the Alfred Nikodém Memorial will take place on 26 December at 11 am at the northern tip of Slovanský Island. We are delighted that you are interested in joining its 79th edition. The event is also open to swimmers who are not registered with the Czech Swimming Federation, provided they meet the conditions below.

  • Good health.
A doctor must certify your fitness for winter swimming using the standard form available here. As an unaffiliated swimmer, you should tick ‘jednorázová prohlídka’ (one-off examination). This certificate may be issued by a general practitioner as well as a sports physician.
  • Evidence that you can swim your chosen distance (100 or 300 metres) in cold water.
    — One option is to submit a video of your swim. It must clearly show when the swim took place (for example, by showing that day’s newspaper), its duration (5 minutes for the 100 m event or 13 minutes for the 300 m event) and the water temperature, which must be below 6°C. Temperature can usually be demonstrated by filming a thermometer or linking to a publicly available water-temperature reading. Upload the video to Úschovna, YouTube or a similar service, and email the link with your entry to the address below.
    — Another option is a trial swim in the December-cold Vltava with our member Jaroslava Hodisová (email: info@otuzilci-praha.cz). This must always be arranged in advance and takes place during an I. PKO training session in Prague-Braník, usually on Thursdays from 5 to 6 pm. Sessions can also be arranged on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm, or Saturdays from 10 am to noon. You can use our pleasantly heated clubhouse, less than 100 metres from the river. Other times may be possible in exceptional cases.
    — You may also be able to complete a trial swim outside Prague with a cold-water swimmer known to us, who can confirm your readiness. This must be arranged individually according to location with race director Tomáš Prokop, telephone 606 754 905.
  • Pay the CZK 300 entry fee. Payment must reach account
6147514003/5500 by the entry deadline. A payment QR code can be sent on request.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR ENTRY:

  • First name, surname, year of birth, place of residence, distance (100 or 300 m), a link to your trial swim (or details of when and with whom you completed it), PLUS A SCAN OF YOUR MEDICAL CERTIFICATE, NO MORE THAN ONE YEAR OLD.
  • EMAIL ALL OF THE ABOVE TO info@otuzilci-praha.cz.
  • THE DEADLINE IS 22 DECEMBER. YOUR TRIAL SWIM MUST ALSO BE COMPLETED BY THEN.

PLEASE ARRIVE AT ŽOFÍN PALACE NO LATER THAN APPROXIMATELY 9:30 AM AND CHECK IN IN PERSON WITH THE REGISTRATION TEAM. CHECK-IN CLOSES AT 10 AM, and you should allow time for a queue.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing an enjoyable event together.
