Our traditional triple event before the winter season took place on Sunday 21 September — fittingly, on the last day of summer. The sun seemed unwilling to give up just yet, delivering a pleasant 28°C, but the Vltava was already at an autumnal 15–16°C.
The programme began with a working party around the I. PKO clubhouse. We mowed the lawn, raked the leaves and cleaned inside, but above all we prepared firewood for winter. After all, who would not look forward to…
…that wonderful feeling of emerging chilled from the Vltava in January and returning to a warm clubhouse, scented with wood and the fire crackling in the stove? Under Vláďa Čadil’s guidance, the work went briskly. It was also a pleasure to catch up with people we do not often see during the year.
The main sporting event was a 750-metre race with 35 swimmers. Jakub Kačerovský won the men’s race, followed by Marek Švejda and Jaroslav Pekárek. Lenka Škvorová won the women’s race ahead of Kamila Šindelářová and Jana Sobotová. The Sunday gathering ended around a campfire, with music from Michal Kohoutek and Tomáš Kocanda, giving our vocal cords a workout too.
The post-holiday triple event is both a traditional gathering of club members and friends and a test of our fitness before the approaching winter season. We wish every swimmer a successful start to the coming Czech Winter Swimming Cup.
See you by the water!
