On 23 June 2017 we held our traditional Vltava time trial. We call this event our “triple event”, because it consists of a work party, a race and a campfire. The work party put the swimmers in good spirits and loosened them up — a rather distinctive warm-up. And, as everyone knows, warming up is always useful in sport, so ideally every competitor should join the work party.
The race gave swimmers a chance to compare their form. They first swam upstream, turned at a buoy and enjoyed the remaining stretch downstream. The weather was beautiful and sunny, with air at 27.6°C and a relatively warm Vltava at 17.2°C. The course measured 750 metres, starting and finishing near the I. PKO Praha clubhouse.
This time the men finished ahead of the women overall. Zdeněk Sláma came first, Jaroslav Pekárek second and Tomáš Pilát third. Petra Johová won the women’s race, followed by Radmila Srbová and Jitka Vachtová.

We celebrated afterwards around the campfire, restoring both body and spirit. Sausages, bread and beer replaced the calories lost in the Vltava. There was conversation and singing to Michal Kohoutek’s guitar.

We look forward to seeing you at the next triple event on 24 September 2017.
