PHOTO REPORT INSIDE
June brought no long-awaited warmth. Instead, the persistent cold and rain brought flooding to Prague. The unregulated Berounka, which joins the Vltava just four kilometres upstream of our clubhouse, kept adding water, while the Vltava cascade released increasing amounts. Even though our clubhouse stands relatively high compared with our neighbours, we too will be counting the damage.
Fortunately, the Vltava peaked a little below its 2002 flood level, so only our cellars were flooded. We will assess the damage when the water recedes — and we already know what our next working party will be doing. Hopefully, everything will be cleaned up before the campfire planned for 23 June. This photo report covers three critical days. Our members took the pictures in sequence: Ivan Landa on 2 June at 16:00, Antonín Kutil on 3 June at 10:00, and Tomáš Prokop on 4 June at 14:00. The last day’s series shows the water around thirty centimetres below its peak, as the marks left after it receded reveal.
Swimming in the Vltava is strongly discouraged in the immediate aftermath, particularly for hygiene reasons.
