The Alfred Nikodem Memorial takes place, as traditionally, on 26 December at 11:00 at the southern tip of Slovanský Island. We are delighted that you are interested in joining its 71st edition.
The event is open to swimmers who are not registered with the Czech Swimming Federation, provided they meet these conditions:
- Good health. A doctor must certify your fitness for winter swimming on the standard form available here. Unaffiliated swimmers should select “jednorázová prohlídka” (one-off examination). A GP may issue this certificate as well as a sports physician.
- You must demonstrate that you can complete your chosen distance, 100 or 300 metres, in cold water.
One option is a video of your swim. It must clearly show when it took place, for example by showing that day’s newspaper; how long you swam, five minutes for the 100-metre event or thirteen minutes for 300 metres; and the water temperature, which must be below 6°C, usually shown on a thermometer or supported by a public temperature record. Upload the video to Úložna, YouTube or a similar service, and email the link with your entry to the address below.
Alternatively, arrange a practice swim in the December Vltava with our member Lída Cerovská (ludmila.cerovska@centrum.cz). This is always by prior arrangement, during I. PKO training in Prague-Braník on Mondays and Wednesdays from 16:00 to 18:30, or Saturdays between 10:00 and 11:30. You can use our pleasantly heated clubhouse, less than 100 metres from the river. Other times may be possible in exceptional cases.
A trial swim outside Prague may also be possible with a cold-water swimmer known to us who can confirm your preparedness. This must be arranged individually according to location with event director Tomáš Prokop, telephone 606 754 905.
- Pay the CZK 200 entry fee in cash at the venue on the day.
YOUR ENTRY MUST INCLUDE:
- First name, surname, year of birth, place of residence, distance (100 or 300 m), a link to your trial swim (or when and with whom you completed it), AND A SCAN OF YOUR MEDICAL CERTIFICATE, NO MORE THAN ONE YEAR OLD.

- THE DEADLINE IS 21 DECEMBER. YOUR TRIAL SWIM MUST ALSO BE COMPLETED BY THEN.
ARRIVE AT ŽOFÍN PALACE BY APPROXIMATELY 09:30 AT THE LATEST AND CHECK IN PERSONALLY WITH THE REGISTRATION TEAM. CHECK-IN CLOSES AT 10:00.
