I. plavecký klub otužilců Praha warmly invites you to the 68th Alfred Nikodem Memorial, our Christmas swimming competition in the Vltava.

The oldest and best-known cold-water swimming event will take place on Friday 26 December 2014, St Stephen’s Day, at 11:00 in the Vltava beside Prague’s National Theatre.

Swimmers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Italy, Russia, Estonia, Austria and Germany will take part. The course crosses the Vltava between Střelecký and Slovanský islands, with the start and finish beside Slovanský Island.

This year’s main partner is České dráhy — Czech Railways, through the Czech Union of Sport project “Sportuj s námi” — “Play Sport with Us”. It is the largest sporting initiative ever held in the Czech Republic. In 2014, the project selected only well-organised events of a high sporting and social standard whose reach extended beyond their local area. The organising club therefore greatly values its inclusion.

Following last year’s successful cooperation, an important partner of the 68th edition is again Oborová zdravotní pojišťovna, the health insurer for employees in banking, insurance and construction.

“Oborová zdravotní pojišťovna stands by its clients in heat and frost. It cares about how people look after their health, which is why it has partnered with the memorial. OZP has been here for more than twenty years and wishes all friends of healthy exercise the best of success.”

The event is supported by DPOV a.s., SUPTel a.s., BYTOSTAV s.r.o., Agama Diving, Prague City Hall and co-organiser Prague 1.

For the third time, the programme includes the Prague 1 Mayor’s Cup, awarded to the team comprising the three best-placed swimmers from each participating club. For the first time, Prague 1 Mayor Ing. Oldřich Lomecký will present the trophy in person.

A new award is the Czech Radio Director General’s Cup for the Most Persistent Cold-Water Swimmer: the swimmer who spends the longest time on the 750-metre course while still finishing within the time limit.

The top three men and women over 750 metres can look forward to beautiful trophies made by Czech master glassmakers at Crystal Poděbrady, donated by Czech Railways, general partner of the ČUS “Sportuj s námi” project.

For the first time, all awards will be announced and presented in the decorated Small Hall of Žofín Palace.

Further information, particularly for competitors, is in the regulations: Event regulations, 26 December 2014 (in Czech)
