On Friday 24 September, we held our regular autumn campfire, preceded by the third edition of our club trial. This year also featured a lecture by Associate Professor Vybíral on experimental research into cold adaptation. Club members had taken part in the research — as subjects, naturally. This effectively opened our winter season. For anyone interested in taking up cold-water swimming, a reminder: autumn is the best time for beginners. The Vltava is still bearable for those unaccustomed to cold water, and its gradual cooling allows a gentle introduction.
Club trial
This year’s trial took place in relatively mild conditions: water at 17.6°C, clear sunshine and air at 19°C. Twenty-four swimmers took part.
